Training

training_definitionAll businesses have a legal requirement to ensure that staff are adequately trained in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, section 2 (2).

Acacia Business Services provides cost effective, quality training for businesses both large and small and unlike many other training companies, we are happy to train individuals as well as larger groups.

If you have a requirement for training which is not mentioned here, please call to discuss as ABS may have an associate provider able to help.

Manual Handling

More than a third of all ‘over-three-day absence’ injuries reported each year to the HSE and local authorities are caused by manual handling tasks i.e. the transporting or supporting of loads by hand or by bodily force.

Surveys of self-reported work-related medical conditions estimated that 1.1 million people in Great Britain suffered from musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) caused or exacerbated by their current or past work. An estimated 12.3 million working days were lost due to these work-related MSDs. On average each sufferer took about 20 days off in that 12-month period.

The Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992, as amended in 2002 (‘the Regulations’) apply to a wide range of manual handling activities, including lifting, lowering, pushing, pulling or carrying.

Our training gives useful practical advice on how to reduce the risk of injury from manual handling.

Confined Space Entry & Emergency Escape

A number of people are killed or seriously injured in confined spaces each year in the UK.

This happens in a wide range of industries, from those involving complex plant to simple storage vessels.

Those killed include not only people working in the confined space but those who try to rescue them without proper training and equipment.

Our training offers the delegate all the information required to ensure they can work safely in a confined space.

Fire Safety Training

Existing Fire Safety Legislation and the subsequent Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2006 requires that all staff should complete fire safety training.

Our courses are suitable for all categories of employee and help employers to fulfil their obligations.

We are pleased to offer the following courses:

  • Basic Fire Safety Training
  • Fire Marshal Training
  • ‘Hands on’ Extinguisher Training

Display Screen Equipment Assessment

With increased use of technology in our working environments, everyone is spending more time staring at a computer screen, whether it is to complete paperwork or operate a large CNC machine. It is vital that a workstation is set up correctly since anything short of best practice in this respect can sometimes lead to injuries that, if left untreated, can go on to become debilitating for the user and may result in a claim against your company. Often such problems can be avoided altogether, sometimes simply by completing a proper assessment.

If you have employees that spend time in front of a computer screen, then contact ABS for advice and assistance.
